Sims@Scotia
Sims@Scotia is the result of an affiliation between The Scotia Clinic and Sims International. As a result of this affiliation satellite IVF/ Assisted Conception care is available in the South West of Ireland.
Satellite IVF involves the provision of IVF / Assisted Conception whereby all consultations, semenalysis, ultrasound scanning, blood tests and counselling are provided at a satellite centre (The Scotia Clinic) while egg retrieval, embryology and embryo/blastocyst transfer are carried out at the primary centre ( Sims Clinic)
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q How to organise a referral for Satellite IVF?
Ideally all referrals should come via a GP or Consultant Gynaecologist. Where couples self-refer we encourage communication with GPs to ensure safe delivery of care.
On receipt of a request for a consultation a medical questionnaire is forwarded to the couple for completion.
On the return of the questionnaire an appointment is allocated with Dr. McCaffrey and Staff Nurse Corkery at the Scotia Clinic. A Satellite IVF file is created.
Q How is a treatment plan initiated?
At completion of the first consultation a series of blood tests, scans and semenalyis are scheduled. Many of these tests may already have been completed by the referring doctor-if so this may expedite the process. Detailed consent forms are given to couples to read and complete. When all the test results are available provisional dates are scheduled between The Scotia Clinic and Sims.
This task is the responsibility of Ms.Cliona O’Regan ( Sims @ Scotia IVF Co-ordinator)
Drug regimens and treatment plans are organised between Dr. McCaffrey and Sims clinical staff.
Treatment time frames are the very same as treatment cycles for women attending a primary IVF clinic.
Q Which parts of the treatment takes place in Kerry?
All consultations take place in Kerry-very rarely in complex cases one consultation may be necessary in Dublin.
Blood tests, scans and semenalysis are carried out in Kerry. Complex tests such ovarian reserve tests/AMH are done locally.
However complex sperm DNA fragmentation tests may require a trip to Dublin.
Q Which treatments require visits to Dublin?
Both the egg retrieval and embryo transfer are carried out in Dublin, thus only two visits to Dublin are required.
For couples undergoing Egg Donation the male partner needs to attend Sims on a planned date for sperm freezing.
For other very complex forms of male infertility treatments such as TESE one extra trip to Dublin may need to be made in advance for testicular tissue harvesting.
Q What are treatment costs for Satellite Assisted Conception?
Fees for Satellite Assisted Conception are exactly the same as the fees payable by couples attending Sims directly. Details of fees may be obtained from our
