Our Team

Dr. Mary McCaffrey - Consultant Obstetrician - Gynaecologist 

Dr. McCaffrey is a graduate of University College, Cork. She was appointed as Consultant  Obstetrician/ Gynaecologist at Kerry General Hospital in 1998 and opened The Scotia Clinic (previously Scotia Women’s Clinic) in 2002.
Prior to that she was employed as Assistant Master at the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin and Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

During her time at the Rotunda Hospital she worked in the IVF Unit and Sexual Assault Treatment Unit.

In the early 90’s Dr. McCaffrey worked in Northwick Park Hospital, London and played a lead role in starting a medical service for women suffering from Female Genital Mutilation.

She served as President of the Irish Hospital Consultants Association until 2007. 
Her areas of special interest are infertility/reproductive medicine, colposcopy and vulvodynia.

Cliona O’Regan RGN BSc - Practice Manager

Cliona completed her RGN training in London in 1994. Post graduate education includes Counselling Theory for Nurses, Evidence-based Emergency Gynaecology, UCLH course in Reproductive Medicine, Teaching and Assessing in Clinical Practice, Sexually Transmitted Infections-an awareness course, Addiction and Drug Use Course, Urology Cancer Care Update and most recently has completed An Advance smear takers course (ICSP).

 

Since qualifying as a Registered General Nurse Cliona’s work experience has been varied and diverse. In London she gained experience in an Acute Medical Admissions Ward as well as in Theatre Recovery Room and High Dependency Units. On her return to Ireland she worked in The National Liver Transplant Unit and the Genito-Urinary Ward in St. Vincent’s Hospital. Her time working in The Drug Treatment Centre Board, Dublin 2 was invaluable as it was here she gained vital knowledge on phlebotomy, hepatology and management. In Kerry General Hospital she spent five years on the Gynaecology Ward before moving to The Scotia Clinic to become Practice Manager, a position she has held since March 2007.

Estelle Fitzgerald RGN RM - Staff Midwife

Estelle qualified as a RGN from Queens University Belfast in 2000. She subsequently obtained A higher Diploma In Midwifery from Trinity College, Dublin in 2003. Her post graduate qualifications include Infection Control Course, Neonatal Resuscitation Programme, Breast Feeding Programme (UNICEF), Leading Antenatal Classes, Family Planning and An Advanced Smear Takers Course (ICSP).

Since qualifying as a Registered General Nurse and Registered Midwife Estelle’s work experience has been wide ranging.

 

As a Registered Midwife she has enjoyed employment in The Rotunda Hospital and Kerry General Hospital. She joined the team in The Scotia Clinic in 2006. She provides valuable midwifery skills for pregnant women throughout Kerry and beyond and runs a weekly smear clinic.

Estelle is The Scotia Clinic’s  responsible person for infection control.

Michelle Corkery RGN BSc

Michelle qualified as a RGN in Tralee in 2004. Completed post graduate training includes Ultrasound Scanning Course, Family Planning and Reproductive Medicine Course (RCOG). She has recently become a member of The British Fertility Society.

 

Since completing her training Michelle’s work experience has focused in the area of women’s health. During her two years in Kerry General Hospital she gained experience on numerous wards including Gynaecology. In Australia she furthered her interest in women’s health working in The Royal Hospital for Women -Sydney. On her return to Ireland she worked in The Bon Secours Hospital, Tralee before joining the team at The Scotia Clinic in 2007 where she is responsible for fertility scanning and is pivotal in developing the service in Reproductive Medicine.

Karen Twomey - Office Administrator

Graduating from the University of Limerick in 2001 Karen has a BSc in Environmental Science.

Karen’s work experience has been multi faceted through which she has developed a range of administrative and co-ordination skills now benefiting The Scotia Clinic.

She joined the team at The Scotia Clinic in 2007 where she is responsible for co-ordinating a busy clinic.

Catherine Fernane -Receptionist

Catherine joined the team at The Scotia Clinic in 2008. Previously she achieved a National Certificate in Business Studies at the Institute of TechnologyTralee in 1990. She also completed a Diploma in Montessori Teaching in 1992.

Having acquired experience over a long number of years in a G.P. Practice, Catherine provides a caring and professional service to clients attending The Scotia Clinic.
